SAG Fashion Awards

January 26th, 2010 -

Another awards show means one thing: fashion scrutiny. Let’s get down to the nitty gritty, the bare and backless and every torso in between.

Christina Applegate could have been mistaken for the goddess Hera as she dawned a glorious Cinderella-esque flowing sheath. The sleek bun and elegant earrings topped off her royal poise. We give her a nine!

Lea Michele from the TV show Glee must have ruffled the feathers of her designer before stepping out of the limo. While the color hints at turquoise, the hue’s a little too forest green–which reminds us of Christmas sweaters. Not a great fit for her bust either. We give Lea a three.

Michelle Monaghan strolled up in an interesting silver and black ensemble that resembled a disco ball and a contoured satellite map. The white sequins washed out her fair, but beautiful, skin. If the dress was sleeveless and cut across her chest diagonally under the right arm, it might have worked…but dig the shoes! We give Michelle a five and a half.

Sadly, none of the girls from Nine looked as lovely as usual. From left, we see a cut-up goose costume, a white sheet wrapped around Kate’s body, a Woodstock leftover, and very boring black. Sorry, girls. We just expect much more from you. We give the cast a four (just because Marion’s wink is super cute).

Carey Mulligan, yes, yes, yes to this red dress! We love the discreetly placed cinches and the way the fabric literally wraps around her body. The brooched belt is quirkily classy. Her funky cropped hair and cute smirk pair perfectly with simple heart-shaped earrings. We give Carey a ten!

Can’t wait for the next awards show to get our critique on again.

Until then,

Shop on!

We Give the Ladies of NINE a Ten

December 14th, 2009 -

Heard all the hubbub about NINE. Yeah, it’s the latest homage to Italian filmmaker Frederico Fellini’s 8 1/2 blah blah blah di da. But as much as we dig the film world, we can’t get OVER the ladies in this blockbuster hit–and what they’re wearing in the film.

At the Broadcast Film Critics Assn.’s 15th annual Critics Choice  Movie Awards, the musical “Nine” received nominations for best picture, best supporting actress, best ensemble, best cinematography, best art direction, best editing, best costume design, best makeup, best sound and best song.

Hmm…art, costumes, makeup, music…sounds like something we should look into.

Penelope plays Carla, Guido’s sex-infused mistress. Her red hot number can’t be cooled. Besides, she’d still look stunning even if we dumped Italian soda on her head.

Kate Hudson plays an Stephanie, an American fashion journalist who’s gone gaga for Italian cinema. Supposedly, this little number Kate wore during a gutsy solo weighs ten pounds.00028919

Nicole, playing Italian director Claudio’s muse and protege, stays warm in fur–this winter’s must-have. Check out her white-hot strapless. We think Barbie used to have one like this back in the day when her black eyelashes jutted out like thick glue-ons. nicole-kidman-movie-musical

Marion Cotillard plays Claudio’s stoically patient, poised wife. Her simply classic black dress fits the role (and her) perfectly.

The infamously fabulous Sophia Loren plays Guido’s Mamma. And boy, if our mama looked like this every day, we’d be a super star, too.nine_12

Judie Dench proves age ain’t nothin’ but a number playing Lilli, Guido’s costume designer.

The Awards will be held on Jan 15th. We’ll be there (in a very vivid daydream). Except a full report on who’s wearing what.
