Gowns and Glasses-Nerd No More

January 21st, 2010 -

Think your spectacles will be a laughing spectacle at prom or your next formal occasion? Think again, doll. Glasses can be a sexy accessory when paired with the right dress. So, don’t go blind just yet, take these tips to the store and learn how to work glam into your glasses.

Your glasses already flatter your face. (We hope you only bought a pair that would accentuate your features.) So really, your customized set of eyes can only jazz up your dress décor.

Glasses can be the focal point of an evening ensemble, especially if your extra eyes are flashy or trendy enough. Have a pair of cat-eyes with rhinestones? Think simple and chic when it comes to your dress and your eyes will definitely pop. A little extra makeup and your face will steal the show.

Try matching your dress color with your glasses for a gorgeous package deal–beautiful bifocals included. But do this only if the color of your glasses complements your skin, which it should be if you wear them every day. This technique works best with rich colors, like deep golds, browns, reds and blues.

For a radically distinct look, try conjuring the ultimate contrast. If you wear white glasses, wear a black dress, or the opposite. Sharp and sassy does it.

Remember to think of your glasses as a legit accessory, not part of your face. So, don’t overdo jewelry if you plan to ditch the contacts. In fact, our stylists at Tiza recommend limiting jewelry to bracelets and basic stud earrings to avoid the gaudy factor. We’re not playing dress-up here, girls. We’re getting gorgeous!

So no more nerd alert. This just in: glasses are the hottest accessory of the season. Polish and wear with pride!

What to Wear for a Fabulous First Date

October 29th, 2009 -

leave a little to the imagination
School time brings a whole new crop of guys. That means plenty of first date opportunities. When he asks what you’re doing Friday night, be prepped on what to wear. Helpful tips on how to find out what you need to wear for a fabulous first date.

Okay, this should go without saying, but just for reemphasis: NO SEQUINS OR BEADED DRESSES on a first date—unless it’s a formal ball or prom.

Try to gage how fancy the date will be by a few obvious hints. Is he picking you up? Did he ask if you like steak or fish? These may be signs that he’s planning something fanciful and old-school, like a sit-down dinner.  If you’re meeting in a park or at the movies, try to find out if he’s planning anything afterwards. If not, casual is cool.

“Just, uh, look good.” Oh, thanks. That’s helpful. Sometimes guys just don’t get it. Now, we know you’d look great in an oversized T-shirt, but the magic on a first date is magnified when you feel gorgeous.

Make him get specific. Will you be inside or outside? If inside, remember you may get chilly in a strapless dress, so bring a sweater. Will you be with a big group or alone? If he says you’ll be with other people, find out who and call up the girls. See what they’re planning to wear. These questions can help you pare down your wardrobe choices.

If the date is a surprise, be sneaky with your questions. Interrogate a little bit. Ask if you’ll be walking a lot or doing anything physically demanding like laser tag or skating.  Will you get sweaty? (Not like that). Do you need tennis shoes? He won’t have to give away his surprise and you’ll be prepared.

If you’re absolutely confused, dress nice in something you feel beautiful in and bring a change of clothes just in case. You may have to carry a large tote or handbag, but you can always leave it in the car and just carry necessities in a clutch.

That’s all for now!
